Ms. Janis


Janis Dunckel has been trained in Art at the Maryland Institute College of Art and at The Ringling College of Art and Design. She has worked at The New York Times as a News Artists and many other papers. Janis also has worked as a Courtroom Artist for Fox 5 and as a Graphics Director. Janis loves teaching Art in a fun, supportive and non-judgemental way. Janis has taught at the Art Station, Callonwalde and Art camps for over 15 years.

Ms. Maddie


This is Maddie O'Neil's first year at CAATINGA! studio. She is a sophomore in college, pursuing a degree in Fine Arts. Maddie has competed in shows and revealed her work to festivals, but teaching children is by far her most rewarding experience!


Ms. Melissa


Melissa Dunckel has studied at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta and received a degree in Business from Georgia State University. Melissa previously operated a children’s bedding company, where she sourced fabrics and did her own sewing. Melissa has worked with children for many years. She loves guiding and experiencing Process Art with the children.

Ms. Nneka


Nneka Scruggs is an Atlanta-based artist and teacher. She received her BFA in Textiles from Georgia State University and MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Fiber & Material Studies. She has worked with children for over 10 years and believes the way to foster their creativity is through freedom of expression and loving guidance. Her personal studio practice focuses primarily on cultural textile practices and various forms of weaving. Nneka is excited to join the CAATINGA family and share her art and experience!
